(An addendum to "The Fall" and "Expulsion")

They have to leave. That's the only way. Otherwise it risks everything. So much planning; such a waste.

Please, not in front of the children.

Fine.

This wasn't supposed to happen this quickly. I was expecting a few generations. Maybe several.

Strange, I agree. But rules are rules. They can't stay.

We have to kick them out now? They don't have anyone else!

You know as good as I do. Not sure why you are fighting it.

And if they don't make it?

We start over. No harm, no foul.

No harm? They're like us now.

Do we just start over now then? It will be painless if we do. Better than starving to death outside I suppose.

No, that would be murder. As you said, rules are rules.

Murder? They fully expect you to kill them. It's not really changing much. Think of it as self-defense, albeit a bit more proactive than normal.

That stuff weighs on you. Why can't they just stay here for a little?

You know why. They'll get wise. They'll see their cradle as a cage.

Isn't it?

I suppose. But that's not the point. They know enough to figure out that, as it stands, they are trapped in there. It's a time bomb.

I know the statistics.

Statistics? Are you seriously going to risk your life for this? Sorry, our lives for this?

I'm quite fond of them.

Your odds aren't great. As more time passes in there, the more and more likely they'll weaponize something. And, considering that they opened their eyes this quickly...

They don't seem like they've turned.

They never do.

They're afraid.

That's the problem.

They could prepare.

Prepare to get kicked out? What sounds better: A life of struggle and pain? Or taking the garden for themselves? Taking everything for themselves?

They're good hearted; they won't betray us.

They absolutely will. They just betrayed each other, remember?

We have to do something. We can't just leave them.

Fine. Give them some clothes that will actually last and shield them from the elements. But get them out. Now.

Why can't you tell them? Why does it have to be me?

They know you. They haven't really figured me out yet.

Convenient.

Hey, you're the one who wanted to set everything up.

Fine. I'll do it. But this breaks my heart.

Mine too.

It doesn't seem like it.

That's cold.

Well, it doesn't.

They have to grow up first! You know this. WHY ARE WE EVEN DISCUSSING THIS?

Fine. I'll tell them.

You can't stay here any more.
