Who Builds Castles?

The paranoid look in obvious places;
defenses pointing the wrong way
To stop the dark forces of the night,
they sleep through the sunny day.
Rationing beauty to the chosen;
locking away rings, goblets and gold.
The larder low on its provisions
and the stock is starting to get old.

The daring assume no one is looking
so why bother with all of the fuss?
The walls others built aren't airtight
Only being used if they absolutely must.
Taking only in but a moment;
nothing found missing in time.
Small things add up relatively quickly
Ending in a negative bottom line.

The future isn't here yet;
the past is already done.
All we have is the present
in which "good" has already won.
The walls you build are up to you;
The walls I use are flawed.
You're free to use mine as a model,
but know you might just fall.

We each have our own lives
of which no one is fully proud.
All these perceived shortcomings
that we cover with our shroud.
How we cope is up to us;
"Healthy" a point of view.
In trying to find the balance,
anyone can pass on through.
